Through this project I have learned a lot actually I learned more about it. I also found out more static’s about everybody not just our young African American teenagers in Chicago. In fact I learned that its not worse in Chicago in fact were lucky because other parts of the world is worser.I also learned about credible and non credible which I have never heard of until it was time to do this project . Also I learned that United States has the highest rates of STDs in the industrialized world. In the United States alone, about 19 million new infections are estimated to occur each year. Women suffer more frequent and more serious complications from STDs than men. You can get and pass STDs through vaginal, anal, or oral sex. Trichomoniasis can also picked up from contact with damp or moist objects such as towels, wet clothing, or a toilet seat, if the genital area gets in contact with these damp objects. Some STDs cause no symptoms. But STDs can still be passed from person to person even if there are no symptoms.
Thought out this project, there were a lot of things that I learned and I must admit that there is still a lot to learn about this subject. Also, I learned that testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) can be an effective tool in preventing the spread of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. An understanding of the relationship between STDs and HIV infection can help in the development of effective HIV prevention programs for persons with high-risk sexual behaviors.
Individuals who are infected with STDs are at least two to five times more likely than uninfected individuals to acquire HIV infection if they are exposed to the virus through sexual contact. This is what I learned while completing this project.

History
No one really knows when it began or where. We do not know how many people developed AIDS in the 1970s, or indeed in the years before. We do now know that AIDS and HIV probably had its origins in Africa. The origin of AIDS and HIV has puzzled scientists ever since the illness first came to light in the early 1980s. This can be largely attributed to higher reported rates in black and Hispanic intravenous IV drug abusers, their sex partners, and infants. In 1986, reported AIDS deaths increased adult male and female mortality in the United States by an estimated 0.7 and 0.07%, respectively, with much greater increases in selected age groups or areas of the country. The greatest variation in infection with the human immunodeficiency virus HIV 0 to 70% has been found in surveys of IV drug abusers, while surveys of homosexual men reveal infection rates of 20 to 50%. Infection with HIV ranged from 0 to 2.6% in limited sexually transmitted disease clinic surveys of heterosexual men and women without a history of IV drug abuse or known sexual contact with persons at increased risk". Fron 1998 to 2002 AIDS was still on the rise .In Canada there was an outbreak of HIV infection amongst injecting drug users in Vancouver.Then in 1999 it got worser.According to the annual World Health Report, AIDS had become the fourth biggest killer worldwide, only twenty years after the epidemic began.In the United States a doctor who injected his former lover with HIV infected blood was sentenced to 50 years in prison. Also in 1991 Magic Johnoson was diagnosed HIV positive.

Current Events
As of today March 16,2009 it was reported that AIDS Rate Soars in Nation's Capital. Washington is the nation's capital, home to the President and his family , but it has the highest rate of aids and hiv in country
This is just saying that look what our world is coming to it's not just in illinois, chicago, or among young african american females, it's every where.This is very important to me because it's showing howAIDS and HIV is effecting people all over the world .People are dying in our nation's captial and this just goes back to whyI think this is important, I feel that I need to warn people about how this rate is on the rise and something needs to be done the rise in AIDS and HIV.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the definition of an epidemic is 1 percent of the population. AWashington's rate of infection with HIV-AIDS is three times that. HIV/AIDS Rates Higher in D.C. Than West Africa .Any disease that infects more than one percent of the population is considered a “generalized and severe” epidemic. There are an estimated 33 million people living with HIV/AIDS in 2007, according to the 2008 UNAIDS/WHO report.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that some 1.1 million people in the United States are living with HIV or AIDS.Honestly i can say what are people thinkin about is life" worthless"?That translates into 2,984 residents per every 100,000 over the age of 12 or 15,120 according to the 2008 epidemiology report by the United state’s Washington district of Columbia's HIV/AIDS office.
The report also finds that 76 percent of those infected are blacks. Among its findings: Almost half of those who had connections to the parts of the city with the highest AIDS prevalence and poverty rates said they had overlapping sexual partners within the past 12 months, three in five said they were aware of their own HIV status, and three in 10 said they had used a condom the last time they had sex. This is really sad because i believe that people take life for granted because they know the consequence of haveing unprotected sex.

Personal Reflection
I reason why i chose to talk about this subject because i really am tryin to wake up our young black women because this is happening to us.It is also bring down our community and its hurting the future of our kids.As a child i always hated seeing people sick.
I first wanted to learn more about this subject when my brother in law friend died of aids.He looked like he was a healthy young man jus living his life to the fullist and when i found out he had aids i was man that stuff is deadly out here in these streets and he was always smiling and so when my brother in law told me he had aids it was really shocking because i wonder how can u live your life knowing that u have a diease and your time on earth is gettin cut short because of a diease.
I jus want to let everybody know that no matter how young or old you are u can still catch a diease.Also that it hasnt stop or went in where in fact this is getting worse and the more people that is aware about the situition the more people i would help out before its too late.
Unfortunately, women also are more at risk of getting STDs than men and young women are at even greater risk. The more educated our children and teens are about the facts about sexually transmitted diseases, the better the chance is that if they do decide to have sex they will know how to protect themselves from sexually transmitted diseases and infections, as well as HIV the virus that causes AIDS, and unplanned pregnancy.I just really want people to be aware of whats going on in the world and use protection.In todays world its dangerous.http://www.cdc.gov/STD/

I want to know why african-american felmales? Why so STD rate high? Do we as african americans females dont believe in safe sex?
What i know is that The African-American adolescent female population is affected by sexually transmitted disease (STD) and the HIV epidemic in the United States.STDs among females aged 10 and older (rate per 100,000), by age, 2003 Total (10 years and older): chlamydia, 468.1; gonorrhea, 119.0. 10-14 years: chlamydia, 134.3; gonorrhea, 40.8. 15-19 years: chlamydia, 2,687.3; gonorrhea, 634.7. 20-24 years: chlamydia, 2,564.4; gonorrhea, 595.2. 25-29 years: chlamydia, 964.2; gonorrhea, 260.7. 30-34 years: chlamydia, 344.1; gonorrhea, 110.9. 35-39 years: chlamydia, 135.8; gonorrhea, 58.3. Also know that the highest rates of gonorrhea and chlamydia infections are seen in female african american adolescents aged 15 to 19 years. I know that u can caatch it from having unprotected sex and mainly through vaginal and anal sex; although it is much less common, it can also be passed on via oral sex and hand to eye contact. I also know that people can have it and wont have any sytoms of the STD that they might have.I know that most of STDs are from bactrica.Various studies have estimated that there are four to five million new cases of chlamydial infection each year in the USA alone.Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections that can be transferred from one person to another through any type of sexual contact.Many STDs are treatable, but effective cures are lacking for others, such as HIV, HPV, and hepatitis B and C. Even gonorrhea, once easily cured, has become resistant to many of the older traditional antibiotics. All other forms of sexual contact carry some risk. condoms are commonly thought to protect against STDs.
